How goes the American experiment and the general capacity for self-government? Well, seeing as though our fearless failure is up in the polls in key swing states, I’d say that we have entered into a fateful era in which that very capacity is being called into question. If the general populace cannot sort fact from fiction using their own faculties, then the American experiment will likely not survive much longer.

It wasn’t always thus in this country; Americans arguably used to be less susceptible to the maya and illusion of political mesmerism. At the height of our industrial renaissance in the middle twentieth century, when tradecraft was alive and well, when people were more self-sufficient from within their own mechanical and intellectual capacities, there was not such exposed ignorance as there is today.
